 38th Annual Prince Lot Hula Festival, Oahu Hawaii

 
The 38th Prince Lot Hula Festival in Oahu Hawaii will held at the magnificent Moanalua Gardens. This is the largest non-competitive hula event in the Hawaiian Islands, the festival is every year to honor Prince Lot Kapuaiwa who reprised the once forbidden hula in the district of Moanalua. An historic and cultural treasure, Moanalua Gardens is one of the most beautiful places in Honolulu on the Hawaiian island of Oahu. Opening the 2015 festival will be an impressive line-up of premier halau hula (hula groups) who will perform both kahiko (ancient) and auana (contemporary) hula. Dancers will perform on one of the few remaining pa hula (hula mounds) in Hawaii. Local food and refreshments for your enjoyment will be available for purchase throughout the day. Limited number tee-shirts and a souvenir button will also be available for sale. There is no charge to attend the festival, however, a button donation to MGF is requested to help raise funds for this popular cultural event.

The 10th Annual.Big Island Film Festival at The Fairmont Orchid on the island of Hawaii is a five-day event to celebrate the rich history of storytelling through movies. Filmmakers and film lovers come together each year to experience brand new films from Hawaii and around the world. Films are shown day and night, social events honoring industry professionals, amazing food events, hula halau, Hawaiian musicians, and an on-gong series of filmmaker/screenwriter workshops by top national writers fill the days and evenings. Q&A sessions following each film set brings the filmmakers and audience together in a unique setting. A new element this year will be a script contest to express all the workshop training and methodology - the contestis open to anyone with a completed script ready to submit. An Awards Brunch and Best of the Fest Concert & Audience Choice best feature & short films close the festival for the year. There will also be a Silent Auction for the Fisher House as our community outreach during the closing event. Come join this exciting event on the Island of Hawaii!

Little Beach, also known as "Puʻu Olai Beach" is a small beach just North of Big Beach separated by a steep lava outcropping and a five minute hike. On Sunday's, Little Beach visitors can enjoy celebratory drumming and fire dancing during the afternoon/evening. The beach is only 660' long and can become crowded at peak periods. Little Beach is one of the few Hawaiian beaches where local police tolerate nude sunbathing, though the proliferation of video cameras and cell phones has greatly reduced the number of nudists.

In the center of Makena State Park is Puʻu Olai, a dormant volcanic cinder-cone with a height of 360 feet.  The park is located on Makena Road, just to the south is the ʻAhihi Kinaʻu Natural Area Reserve.

Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve, Oahu

Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the Hawaiian Islands, located on Oahu it's one of the most spectacular natural resources on the Islands, is reaping the benefits of over a decade of moves to re-establish its pristine marine ecosystem. Learn about protecting the bay at the recently opened Marine Education Center where you can  watch a short theatre presentation and view exhibits. Then swim out into Hanauma Bay’s clear blue waters and explore the lively reefs full of colorful fish. Rent or bring your own masks, snorkels and fins. And be sure to pack a lunch or stop by the snack bar after a morning of exploration.

Snorkeling is the most popular activity on Hanauma Bay. Swimming just above the coral rocks and spotting amazing sea creatures is a relaxing and enjoyable way to spend the day on the island of Oahu. There is at least one company on the beach that rents snorkeling equipment and provides lessons for beginners. Even the most inexperienced snorkeler can have a great time swimming with the Hawaiian wildlife in Hanauma Bay.

USS Arizona Memorial, Pearl Harbor Honolulu Hawaii
